ABOUT

The Florida International University Center for Translational Science will host its fifth annual South Florida Translational Research Symposium on April 9-10, 2026, in Port St. Lucie, Florida.  The symposium will feature plenary speakers addressing the highly relevant research topics of Congenital Heart Disease, Bench to Bedside, Lung Injury, and Stroke.

There will be a competitive poster abstract session where undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral fellows will present their research.  Awards will be presented to the top research projects in each group (undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral fellow, and medical student).

REGISTRATION

Please read the information before registering.

Prices are as follows:

  • Last day to register is April 3, 2026.
  • Faculty/Post doc in-person: $200.00
  • Graduate/Undergraduate Students in-person: $75.00
  • Zoom option: $100.00 – You will receive a follow-up email with the Zoom details near the time of the event. If you do not receive the email or have any questions, please contact FIU CTS at ctsevents@fiu.edu.
  • Poster presenter in-person: $0.***

***Please Note: This ticket is ONLY for students who will be presenting a poster in-person at the symposium and is subject to approval from FIU CTS.

***To complete your registration, you MUST submit your presentation materials to FIU CTS. Please review the Submission section below.

ABSTRACTS

Abstracts Guidelines Presentation

Abstracts must be submitted online before March 27, 2026.  Awards will be provided to the best poster presentations in each category (undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral fellow, and medical student).

  • Deadline: March 27, 2026
  • Poster Content: All biomedical research areas
  • Poster Format: Descriptive title; Contributing author list; Affiliations; Structured abstract body
    Please use CTS 2026 Symposium Abstract Template for presentation at the 2026 Symposium
  • Limit: One (1) abstract per presenting author

Abstract title: (30 words max) The title should clearly indicate the nature of the research performed. Describe your research in succinct terms, reflecting the contents of your abstract.

Abstract body: (250 words max)

  • Introductory sentence(s)
  • Statement of hypothesis, thesis, purpose, or question of study
  • General methods, procedures, sources, or media used
  • Primary results, findings, or arguments
  • Primary conclusion/implication of the work
  • General statement of the significance of the research or creative work

Posters Guidelines Presentation

Presenters must have their printed poster with them and display the poster on their assigned easel upon arrival on April 9. Please keep the poster on the board during the symposium on the same day.

    • Size: The poster should be printed as 3 feet by 4 feet (36 inches by 48 inches) or smaller to fit in the poster boards.
      Please review Poster Size Symposium 2026.
    • Font size: The font for text within the poster should be no smaller than 32 point.
    • Content: The poster should contain title, author list, affiliation, background/introduction, methods, results, and conclusions. You are encouraged to use graphs, photographs, and other visual aides to help the viewer understand your project.
    • Presentation: The presenter is required to stand by the poster during poster session, and should prepare for a short (2-4 minute) comprehensive introduction of the poster to the audience and the judges.

AWARDS

Poster Award Categories:
  • Undergraduate: Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree, which is either a bachelor’s degree or an associate degree.
  • Graduate: Earned a bachelor’s degree and are pursuing additional education in a specific field.
  • Postdoctoral fellow: Professionally conducting research after the completion of their doctoral studies.
  • Medical student: Currently enrolled in a medical school or university program that leads to a degree in medicine.
  • Other: Research faculty/technical personnel. (Participants in this category are not eligible for awards)

TRANSPORTATION

There will be FREE bus transportation to the Center for Translational Science (CTS) in Port St. Lucie for students who are registered for the conference.

  • The student bus will depart MMC from the front of the Student Academic Success Center (SASC) at 8:00 AM on Thursday, April 9.
  • The bus will depart from CTS at 5:30 PM to return to MMC.
  • This bus will only be available for one day, Thursday, April 9, 2026.
