Wenjing is a postdoc from Dr. Haiwei Gu’s lab. Her research focuses on method development of mass spectrometry (MS)-based metabolomics. Metabolites studies contribute significantly to the discovery of disease biomarkers, drug testing, and biology science enrichment.
The detection and quantification of metabolites, for both targeted and untargeted, rely on using proper method assays and their developments. This includes approaches for metabolites extraction, separation, detection, and quantification. There are various types of metabolites functioning in the living organism, such as lipids, fatty acids, and saccharides, etc. The diversity in molecular structures requires a proper method to study them, such as the selection of extraction solvents, columns, mobile phases, gradients, ionization, and detection conditions. The discovery of new metabolite molecules and enlargement of metabolites study coverage are promising in the area, in which the developments of new and advanced MS technology are essential and necessary.
