Overview Statement
Jamie Soto is the Pulmonary Program Manager at Florida International University’s Center for Translational Science. Jamie earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Science, Emphasis in Biology, at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL. She worked briefly as a Research Technician at The Tampa Bay Research Institute and University of South Florida before joining the lab of Dr. E. Dale Abel at The University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT. Under Dr. Abel’s mentorship Jamie advanced from a Research Technician to Senior Lab Manager and Core Facility Technical Director. Half-way through her 16 years with Dr. Abel, she joined him in moving to the University of Iowa where she established and ran the Metabolic Phenotyping Core which “provides investigators specialized and non-invasive metabolic assays that are essential in phenotyping mouse and other animal models with diabetes, its complications, obesity, and related metabolic disorders.” In 2021, she joined the Center for Translational Science at Florida International University as the Pulmonary Program Manager for Dr. Stephen Black and colleagues. On top of her extensive lab management experience, Jamie is highly experienced with mitochondrial bioenergetic assays utilizing Seahorse XF and OROBOROS equipment and technology, as well as versed in rodent handling and experimentation. Jamie has authored or co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications.
